YEAR DOT - 1763

Welcome to PSVDrivers.COM

1650 (Approx)

The stage coach had become established in Britain. The cheaper options were the stage waggon or the carrier’s cart, sharing space with goods and even livestock. These were often used by young women seeking employment in towns and cities, particularly London. Some were successful but many were forced into prostitution. To imply that a lady had “come up in a carrier’s cart” was to cast serious doubts on her virtue.

1662

The first recorded local service was begun by Blaise Pascal, philosopher and mathematician, in Paris. He was a bit choosy regarding his clientele, peasants and soldiers were not allowed on board. They probably couldn’t afford the fare anyway. Around this time the first hackney carriages were licensed in London.
