WHERE TO FIND IT ALL

Welcome to PSVDrivers.COM

LT Museum

The London Transport Museum is set to reopen in the summer of 2007 and promises to be the ultimate transport history experience.

The refurbishment is costing £19million, of which The Heritage Lottery Fund gave £9.45million. Transport for London generously gave £5.1million, external sponsors £4million and Friends of the Museum £700.000. The Convent Garden museum is housed in a listed building, so updating the structure was always going to be costly.

The work includes digging a hole in the floor to provide a 120-seat theatre in a new basement, and adding a new mezzanine floor, which will display Underground trains. Digging down below floor level in this historic location had to be undertaken with the greatest of care. Not only is the building listed but the chances of finding archaeological remains was quite high and proved to be right. Two skeletons, one from the 8th Century, and a cremated skeleton were found.

The alterations will provide much-needed space for side exhibits. These galleries will hold tickets, posters and advertising from days gone by. There will be comparisons with other world cities, with web cam links to New York, Paris and Tokyo taking place each day.

With new exhibits detailing TfL’s challenge to change the way we pay for our tickets (Oyster Cards)and the new congestion charges the museum is set to cover just about everything to do with London Transport. With plans for an exhibit to show the projects that the industry will set in motion in the next ten years (including our fantastic Olympic bid) the museum will be a packed and fun experience.

PSV Drivers (Amanda) is planning a visit to the museum in August 2007 to give a complete rundown of what the museum has on offer but until then, there are a several oppotunities to join in in the fun. Check out http://www.ltmuseum.co.uk/ and find out what's on offer!

Mention PSVdrivers if you do go to any of the events. You don't get a discount, but the quicker peole hear about us the easier it will be to get discounts in the future!
